Boi-1Da
Matthew Samuels better known as Boi-1da was born in Jamaica and move to Toronto when he was 5. He grew up in Scarborough not far from the Music Marketing offices. Boi-1da got his first taste for music when his mother bought him a Casio keyboard. As he entered his teenage years he began to use FL Studio and began to spend almost every waking moment making the beats he heard from his musical heroes - Dr. Dre, Swizz Beatz, Timberland and The Neptunes. He coupled his virtuoso skills on FL Studio with his burgeoning talent for beat making and at the age of 15 won the Battle of the Beat Makers competition in Toronto. Boi-1da went on to three-peat as champion for the following 2 year and as they say the rest is history.

Boi-1da began to make beats for established Canadian artists like Kardinal Offishall and others as word began to spread of a beat-making wunderkind in Scarborough. Boi-1da met Drake and catapulted to fame and fortune with the 2010 GRAMMY nominated "Best I Ever Had." The song went on to sell 2 million and peaked at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Boi-1da was not finished, he followed this up with "Not Afraid" with one of his heroes Eminem. "Not Afraid" went on to hit Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and win Boi-1da his first GRAMMY Award for Best Rap Song and his second for Best Rap Album [Eminem "Recovery"]. Boi-1da went on to win the 2011 ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award for "Over" by Drake.
