NOTION 2.0 is an advanced music program dedicated to bringing a revolutionary degree of realism to the creation and communication of your musical vision. The NOTION playback engine is natively equipped with a library of realistic sampled sounds taken from the musicians of the London Symphony Orchestra, which means that your music goes from inception to realization right away.

NOTION's score-entry interface offers a set of highly-intuitive keyboard shortcuts that make manual entry faster than ever. The NTempo™ feature enables you to take musical ideas even further, offering the opportunity to control the performance tempo in real time.

The software also comes equipped with a built-in audio mixer, including the ability to adjust volume, decay, and panning of each individual instrument. Scores and NTempo sessions can be saved to WAV format, complete with any custom mixer settings. With its variety of practical uses, NOTION offers infinite opportunity for you to discover your true inner musician.

It's simple to enter a score using the intuitive keyboard shortcuts, and PROTÉGÉ's proprietary playback engine utilizes realistic sampled sounds for authentic playback of any score instantly.

The NTempo™ feature allows you to control the tempo of a score in real time from the computer keyboard. Any score or NTempo session can be saved as a WAV file for quick and easy burning to a CD.

Finally there is guitar software as creative as you are.
PROGRESSION features thousands of real electric and acoustic guitar samples from Neil Zaza, and electric bass and drums samples from Grammy® Award winners Victor Wooten and Roy "FutureMan" Wooten. Guitar and bass amp simulators are included, and VST-hosting capability enables you to use your own effects plug-ins, and amp modelers to give you complete control over the guitar tone. You can quickly enter guitar tablature or standard notation with your keyboard and mouse - or you can play your music on a MIDI guitar or MIDI keyboard and PROGRESSION notates your performance for you. Make changes to the guitar tablature and the notation automatically updates, and vice-versa.

The NOTION Music Sound Expansion Kits allow individual users to customize the sound library of their NOTION software. Some kits simply provide additional playing techniques for existing instruments, while other kits add completely new instruments into the mix. These kits are manufactured separately so that you don't get stuck paying for sounds you'll never use. Currently, new kits are being released at intervals of every 1-2 months, so the NOTION sound library is always growing.

Expanded Percussion II - This kit provides 22 auxilliary percussion instruments: African Log Drum, Almglocken, Anvil, Bodhrán, Bongos, Chinese Bo, Duck Call, Flexatone, Flower Pots, Hammer, Hand Bells, Lead Pipe, Lion's Roar, Piccolo Snare, Rainstick, Sand Blocks, Saw, Siren Whistle, Thunder Sheet, Train Whistle, Vibrastick, and Wind Machine.

Solo Strings I - This kit introduces solo violin, viola, cello and double bass. The sounds included for each instrument are legato, accent, staccato, pizzicato, half step trill and whole step trill, each with a full range of dynamics and articulations.

Expanded Mallets I - This kit adds marimba, vibraphone, crotales and chimes to your NOTION sound library. Included are strikes and rolls from a 5 octave marimba and strikes on chimes and crotales. Vibraphone has strikes and rolls with motor off, slow motor speed, fast motor speed and pedal up.

Saxophones - Included in this kit are sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and contrabass saxophones, each with a full range of dynamics and articulations. Conditions included for each saxophone are legato, legato vibrato, accent, staccato and trills.

Expanded Brass - This kit introduces euphonium and stopped horn, each with a full range of dynamics and articulations. Also included are fluttertongue and straight mute sounds for horn, trumpet, tenor trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Straight mute techniques included are legato, staccato, accent, trills and fluttertongue.

Expanded Woodwinds - New instruments in this kit are contrabassoon and Eb piccolo clarinet, each including legato, staccato, accent, and trills, as well as subtone and fluttertongue for piccolo clarinet. Also included are fluttertongue sounds for piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, and bass clarinet.

"Sessions: Rhythm Section" supplements NOTION's traditional orchestral library with the sounds of a contemporary rhythm section. This kit introduces NOTION's first drum set staff, taking you directly from notation to superb quality drum set sounds performed by Roy Wooten. It features Victor Wooten on electric bass and Vernon Reid on electric guitar, providing a broad variety of techniques and dynamics. To complete the section, upright bass, Fender Rhodes electric piano, and Hohner Clavinet are also included. This kit requires NOTION / PROTÉGÉ version 1.6.1 or later (free update available).

Expanded Strings I - This kit introduces new techniques for violin, viola, cello and bass sections. The new sounds include tremolo, accent tremolo, con sordino, accent con sordino, staccato con sordino, pizzicato con sordino, tremolo con sordino, accent tremolo con sordino, half step trill con sordino and whole step trill con sordino.

Expanded Percussion I - This kit adds the following instruments: castanets, cowbells, cuckoo, drum sticks, maracas, power toms, ratchet, roto-toms, shakers, sleigh bells, temple blocks and woodblock. There are also supplementary playing techniques and timbres included for bass drum, cabasa, claves, cymbal, guiro, orchestral crash cymbals, snare drum, suspended cymbal, tambourine, triangle, and whip. All instruments were played by Neil Percy, principal percussionist of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Harpsichord - The harpsichord in this kit is a 1972 Robert Goble & Son played by John Alley, principal keyboardist of the London Symphony Orchestra. The sounds are from the 8' long stop and include individual notes, half step trills, and whole step trills.

Technical Specifications
All orchestral NOTION Music sounds were recorded at Abbey Road Studio I under the supervision of Recording Engineer Jonathan Allen. Electric bass and drum set sounds were recorded at Dark Horse Recording in Nashville, TN and guitar was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, NY.

Recording equipment used includes:
NEVE 88RS console, Avalon M5 preamps, Neve preamps, Massenberg preamps, Pro Tools HD2, recorded at 96 kHz/24-bit.

Microphones used include:
2 Neumann M50 and 2 Neumann TLM 50s for close ambience, a Decca tree with 3 Neumann M50 for room ambience, Neumann U47fet, U67, U87, KM84, KM184, TLM 170; DPA 4003, 4006, 4011; Sennheiser MD421; AEA R84; Coles 4038 for close mics on single instruments, 5 Schoeps MK 21 for close mics on sections for dry sound of each instrument.
