I first came into contact with Propellerheads Software back in the early Steinberg days when I met Ernst Nathorst-Böös who at that time wrote most of the manuals for Steinberg along with the hypertext based MIDI Explained. I remember seeing the first incarnation of Rebirth and being concerned about what it would do to the value of my own TR-808 and TR-909. I remember doing the Messe demos for ReCycle! with my associate Mischke and the disbelief on the audiences' faces when we got to the segment where we changed a 4/4 song - including the audio loops - to a 3/4 song in an instant. Then came the giant splash heard around the world as Reason redefined the limits of the composition studio.

• Reason has now established itself as one of the premiere music composition software ever made. The reasons for this [pardon the pun] are simple:

• Reason doesn't need a lot of help to do what it does. Launch Reason on an old Pentium III 500 and it still delivers an unprecedented number of notes, sounds, noises and assorted sweetness.

• Reason is super stable and seldom crashes since version 1. Most of us have sort of gotten use to our music programs occasionally going south, but Reason is something special- it just doesn't crash. Reason is extremely simple to use and offers the interface we are used to: the one we stare at in our studios, you hardly need to glance at the manual to start making music.

• Rewire allows Reason to send its magic to the outside world - i.e. to your favourite sequencer. This means that you can use Reason for the awesome music factory that it is and your other programs for what efficiencies they offer you.

• Finally, Reason is the most economical musical devices ever made. How else can a struggling musician get a hold of 15 samplers, 20 drum machines, 15 analog synths, effects, mixers, an endless rack of quality gear etc...? Reason represents tens of thousands of dollars in gear.

• But that's not all, ReCycle! has become the secret weapon for working with loops for thousands of musicians the world over and once you've used it, you will never look at a drum loop the same way.

The Ultimate Tool for Sampled Grooves
ReCycle solves the problem of loops fighting against each other in terms of precise rhythm and pitch. ReCycle can slice audio loops to break them down into their basic rhythmic form. The sliced loops can then be used in composition as their tempo can be controlled by a sequencer. ReCycle can create REX files which compact sliced loops into single files - a Godsend for every serious samplist.
